Dragon Warrior II General ImprovementDescription

Don’t think this is gonna be a 100% Gold Remake, it’ll have its differences. Extra battles (some’ll be optionals, tough but rewarding), Hoenn Pokemon (in every area, and hard to find) New areas, Remapped some dungeons (so your old guides wont work) , Extra recurring characters (some’ll hate you, some’ll help you)

Note that the hack is incomplete but feel free to enjoy the hack as-is.

Thank you for downloading my GENERAL IMPROVEMENT hack of the
American NES version of Dragon Warrior II. This game has always
held a special place in my heart, but due to balancing and grinding
issues, it hasn't aged as well as its sequels. The purpose of this
hack is to address those challenges to create a smoother and more
modern play experience.

Changes include:

* Gold and experience point winnings were increased for most
enemies. In many cases, they were doubled.

* The Gremlin, Saber Lion, Ozwarg, and Evil Clown mini-bosses had
  their stats increased significantly.

* Shop inventories were overhauled. Items like the Bamboo Stick,
Clothes, and Leather Armor can now be purchased. New equipment
is introduced at a steady pace. The best purchasable gear, like
the Light Sword and Shield of Strength, is not accessible until
  Wellgarth.

* All treasure chests that contained gold or traps now hold items.
Also, chest contents were updated to make the items within more
useful. The only regular items that can't now be purchased or
found in chests are the Golden Card and Dragon's Potion.

* Many weapons and armors were buffed to provide more adequate
  boosts in the later levels.

* The misspelled item name "Tresures" was changed to "Treasure."

* The Prince of Midenhall can no longer equip these items: the
Magic Knife, Wizard's Wand, Staff of Thunder, Clothes Hiding,
Magic Armor, Water Flying Cloth, Shield of Strength, and
  Mysterious Hat.

* The Prince of Cannock can now equip these items: the Sword of
Erdrick, Light Sword, Sword of Destruction, Steel Shield, Evil
  Shield, and Iron Helmet.

* The Princess of Moonbrooke can now equip the Leather Shield.

* The Silk Robe is a new armor upgrade for the Princess of
Moonbrooke between Hamlin and Lianport. The Prince of Cannock
can also equip it. This item replaced the Mink Coat.

* The possible names for the Prince of Cannock are now Carmine,
Hector, Lorik, and Roric. The possible names for the Princess
of Moonbrooke are now Aldonza, Deborah, Matilda, and Vivian.

* Slight adjustments were made to MP costs and when new spells are
learned. The Prince of Cannock learns his last spell at Level
30; the Princess of Moonbrooke learns her last spell at level 25.

* The Princess of Moonbrooke lost the Stepguard spell but can now
  cast Revive instead.

* Lastly, all text speed options were sped up!

* No other changes were made. The events, script, maps, etc. are
  all the same.

You will need the 051617dwii.ips file as well as an unaltered
copy of the Dragon Warrior II NES American release ROM.

Recommended ROM:
* Dragon Warrior - Part II (USA)
  * Unmodified ROM CRC32:  027DA188
  * Patch Applied CRC32:   027DB641

Please do not ask me for ROMs; I will not provide them.

I recommend using the Lunar IPS utility to apply the patch to the
ROM. As of this writing, you can download Lunar IPS here:

http://fusoya.eludevisibility.org/lips/

To apply the patch:

1.) Open Lunar IPS and click the Apply IPS Patch button.

2.) Select the 051617dwii.ips file.

3.) Select the ROM.

4.) You're all set! It's that easy!

As far as which emulator to use, I personally like Nestopia.

Nestopia has its own website:
