Don’t think this is gonna be a 100% Gold Remake, it’ll have its differences. Extra battles (some’ll be optionals, tough but rewarding), Hoenn Pokemon (in every area, and hard to find) New areas, Remapped some dungeons (so your old guides wont work) , Extra recurring characters (some’ll hate you, some’ll help you)
Note that the hack is incomplete but feel free to enjoy the hack as-is.
PLATFORM: Nintendo Entertainment System ROM: Super Mario Bros. 2 (USA) HACK TITLE: Super Mario Bros. 2 - Standard Mario Patch AUTHOR: RetroRain VERSION: 1.2 RELEASE DATE: 4/22/17 This is a patch for the USA version of Super Mario Bros. 2, that makes the game more like the other Mario games. Here is a list of all of the changes: - The cherries are now regular coins. - If you collect 100 regular coins, you get a 1-UP. - The regular and bonus coins now have counters on the Pause screen. - The main characters' palettes have been updated. - Health meter, subspace mushroom, 1-UP mushroom, and turtle shell graphics have been updated. - The turtle shell now has a spin animation. - In order to obtain the mushroom in subspace, now all you have to do is walk into it. It cannot be obtained from below though. - The skipped animation frame that existed in the original game has been fixed. - When you pick up 5 big vegetables, the fifth one will reveal a star. The stopwatch is no longer accessible. - The turtle shell now bounces back after colliding with a wall. - The "EXTRA LIFE..." text on the pause and bonus chance screens has been updated to "EXTRA LIVES". NOTES: 1. I was able to make the turtle shell hurt the player on contact when it was in motion, however this was removed for two reasons: 1A. The main reason, is that the bombs that you pick up, drop, and wait a few seconds for them to explode, would hurt you if you touched them before detonation. Whether it was walking into them, jumping on top of them, or trying to catch them. This was definitely a problem for the boss fights with Mouser. Simply trying to catch a bomb would hurt the player. 1B. You could no longer ride the shell, or try to pick it up again. Once the shell was in motion, aside from being able to catch it from below if it was above you, any contact with the shell would hurt the player. The turtle shell and bombs share the same collision routine. And I tried many different methods to try to separate the shell and the bomb, but it has proved very difficult to do, and as not to have any bugs and imbalance in the game, I decided it was best to just leave this out. 2. You can't obtain a mushroom in subspace from below. I managed to get this to work, but it caused the game to crash when the player had contact with the enemies. There was a conflict with the collision routine, that again, was difficult to resolve. And since it's not often that you will obtain a mushroom from below, and not to have any bugs in the game, I decided to leave it out. The titlescreen hasn't been touched.
