Don’t think this is gonna be a 100% Gold Remake, it’ll have its differences. Extra battles (some’ll be optionals, tough but rewarding), Hoenn Pokemon (in every area, and hard to find) New areas, Remapped some dungeons (so your old guides wont work) , Extra recurring characters (some’ll hate you, some’ll help you)
Note that the hack is incomplete but feel free to enjoy the hack as-is.
Breath of Fire Text Cleanup v0.9 (Mar 07 2020) ==================================================================================================== Disclaimer ========== - No ownership is claimed by vivify93 over Breath of Fire or the franchise from which it originates. - Apply this patch only to "Breath of Fire (U) (Mode7).gba". - Send bug reports to vivify93 via PM on ROMhacking.net. - If a modder wishes to use this in their project, they are asked to please credit vivify93. - Players are encouraged to keep a backup of their original ROM or project in case an error occurs. Breath of Fire is the only one of the existing English-localized games that uses old, outdated names for legacy terms. (e.g. Winlan, Tyr, etc.) The game is in need of a full retranslation, but in the meantime, this project sought to update the game to official continuity standards and overall lend clarity to the dialogue. Many truncated item and equipment names have also received updates to make their uses more apparent. Consider combing this mod with the following others. - Asaki's Color Restoration https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/2900/ - Bregalad's Sound Restoration https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/3764/ To any potential newcomers, Breath of Fire I and II use 2-letter abbreviations to denote equipment type. These are the abbreviations the player will encounter in the first game, and their meanings. SD = Sword RP = Rapier DR = Dagger CW = Claw SP = Spear BW = Bow HR = Hammer CN = Cane SH = Shield GL = Glove SL = Sleeve HT = Helmet AR = Armor ML = Mail CL = Clothes VT = Vest CT = Coat CP = Cape GN = Gown RB = Robe RG = Ring BR = Bracelet SF = Scarf Note on character names: 1. Ryu's name is, for some reason, Zack by default in Breath of Fire for GBA. I tried to change it, but was unable. 2. Bo is named Gary during his cameo in Breath of Fire III. 3. Karn is referenced as Danq in Ryusui's retranslation of Breath of Fire II. 4. Bleu is consistently named Deis in Breath of Fire III and IV. 5. Gobi and Ox are not given their names from BoFIII (Respectively, Manillo and Worker.) due to a 4-letter name limit. Players who dislike the changes are recommended to rename characters as soon as Prima is reached. ==================================================================================================== ==================================================================================================== Overview ======== - Widespread dialogue improvement. - Altered many item names in an attempt to clarify their use. - Applies vivify93's Soldier Name Reverter, which gives Sr-1, Sr-2, and Sr-3 their rightful names of Sieg, Rai, and Enon. - Changes several character and town names to maintain consistency with the rest of the series. - Restores the original graphics of the citizens of Tunlan, as well as the Princess of Tunlan's "swimming" sprite. ==================================================================================================== ==================================================================================================== Changelog ========= v0.9 - GP changed to zenny. (Thanks to mteam for the help with the hardcoded G's!) - A host of item name updates. (Thanks to Spooniest) v0.3 - Changed 2 item names. (W.Ant > WTusk > Ivory C.Fsh > CFish > Bream) v0.2 - Updated several item names. (HrGlas > DayFly WtrJr > WtJar > Cruet ProtnA > Potent > Moxie ProtnB > Robust > GutTab W.Ant > WTusk Rod1 > Rod) - Updated "Please wait?" notice when the player and their partner have finished exchanging items. - Reverted the name of an armor once I figured out the abbreviation's meaning. (SuedeCP > SuedeCL > SuedeCP ) v0.1a - Fixed a self-induced typo. (HairBand > Hairband > HairBand) v0.1 - Applied the Soldier Name Reverter, removing Mode7's intro. (Sr-1 > Sieg Sr-2 > Rai Sr-3 > Enon) - Updated menu commands to fit within the 4-letter limit. (SPEL > Cast EQIP > Gear STAT > Info SWCH > Row CHNG > Swap OPTN > Opt. DSCD > Toss VITL > Rare Trde > Deal Dpst > Drop) - Updated character names, mostly in an effort to maintain consistency between later titles' official localizations and Ryusui's Breath of Fire II retranslation. (Bo > Gary Karn > Danq Bleu > Deis Tyr > Myria Nicholie > Nicholai) - For the same reason as above, updated 2 town names. (Ryusui's "Melodia" was one letter too long, so it was shortened slightly.) (Winlan > Wyndia Tunlan > Meloda) - Altered the 8x16 dialogue font and 8x8 menu font to match Ryusui's BoFII fan translation. - Changed the following item and equipment names. (Sabre > Saber EmporSD > RoyalSD SuedeCP > SuedeCL AngleAR > AngelAR PowerAR > PowerRB Wmeat > Goose Antdt > Detox F.Stn > Blaze B.Stn > Taser C.Stn > Sleet Mrbl1 > Focus Mrbl2 > Force Mrbl3 > Smoke (Temporarily disables enemy encounters when used in the field or overworld) Worm2 > Porgy ProtnA > Potent ProtnB > Robust Smoke > Vapor (Casts Flee when used as an item in battle) W.Ptn > WISup S.Ptn > STRup A.Ptn > AGLup L.Ptn > LUKup V.Ptn > VIGup WtrJr > WtJar GnPwdr > Nitros D.Hrt > D.Cut Wtzit > Thing) - Changed several spell names. Dragon names received further expansion than other spells due to difference in data storage. (Cura1 > Cura Zom1 > Zom F.Ball > Erupt LStorm > Storm Atk-Up > Might Ag-Up > Speed Lk-Up > Exalt Para > Stop SnoDr > SnowPup FlmDr > FlamePup ThrDr > ThndrPup IceDgn > IceDragn FirDgn > FireDrgn BltDgn > BoltDrgn GldDgn > HolyDrgn ) - The dummied fishing Rod3 was renamed, and the other rods have been adjusted. (Rod3 > Rod? Rod4 > Rod3 Rod5 > Rod4) - Fixed a few character name variables. - Cleaned up various dialogue, including but not limited to: adding missing character name labels, fixing typos, general clarity. (In my opinion, this is the mod's main attraction) - Tweaked spell incantations. - All instances of "Myst" are now spelled "Mist". - Restored the original graphics of the citizens of Tunlan. The symbol on dragon shrines, Karn, and the men who teach Karn his spells have not been restored at this time. - Restored Princess of Tunlan's "swimming" sprite. - Changed references of the Princess of Tunlan "swimming at night" to "bathing." ==================================================================================================== ==================================================================================================== Credits ======= - Mary/Jejune Mermaid: Translations of various Japanese Breath of Fire material - Ryusui: Marvelous Breath of Fire II retranslation and fonts - mteam: Help with changing GP to zenny - Ted Woolsey: BoFI original translator - Capcom ?and all you Breath of Fire fans out there! ====================================================================================================
