Don’t think this is gonna be a 100% Gold Remake, it’ll have its differences. Extra battles (some’ll be optionals, tough but rewarding), Hoenn Pokemon (in every area, and hard to find) New areas, Remapped some dungeons (so your old guides wont work) , Extra recurring characters (some’ll hate you, some’ll help you)
Note that the hack is incomplete but feel free to enjoy the hack as-is.
***************************************** * XENOGEARS proportional font package * ***************************************** This package contains a series of hacks to add a proportional font to the US version of Xenogears. It's been sitting on a backup drive for years, entirely unused. I guess it's time to give it a real purpose. ------------- -HOW TO USE - ------------- First of all, you're going to need SadNES cITy's translation tool pack, which can be found here: http://www.sadnescity.it/traduzioni/xeno/files/xenogears_translation_tools.rar You are also going to need any version of armips, which can be found here: http://www.romhacking.net/utilities/635/ Follow SadNES's PDF instructions to extract all ISO content. From there you'll have a number of files which are named in simple increasing numbers for the most. You can use these files and the SadNES rebuilder to replace any hacked file into a rebuilt ISO (check the assembly scripts to figure out which files you are going to need). Alternatively, if you have your own set of extracted files for any reason (say, for your own translation project with different internals) you will need to find which of the edited files correspond to SadNES's nomenclature. Now, you can use the batch included in the package and run it to have all changes applied. Beware tho, because the batch also comes with extra commands that are intended to inject hacked files directly into the ISO, with no full rebuild via translation tools; make sure you take precautions because this could break your game as the script assumes a few values from prebuild tables (i.e. LBA values which could be invalid). --------- - NOTES - --------- This proportional font hack is extremely old and doesn't come with solutions for every possible section in the game. For example, it won't resize text box sizes nor will realign strings inside menus. In some cases it will also require more than a few changes to the game's code, like the name entry screen found later in game, when you can define Weltall's name. Other than that, the hack includes a bunch of useful features, like fixed auto-centering in most text boxes that make use of it, like for spells in battle. It also comes with a small fix for the battle dialog cursor, which was incorrectly stretched. --------- -EXTRAS - --------- The pack also comes with a simple program to build and convert the font to a usable format for the game, and it generates a proper width table as well. This converter is extremely old and probably doesn't even compile anymore in any recent build of Visual Studio (it was made with VS2005 or VS2003, I completely forgot to be honest). Even if it doesn't work anymore as intended you can still use it as a reference for convertion.
