Don’t think this is gonna be a 100% Gold Remake, it’ll have its differences. Extra battles (some’ll be optionals, tough but rewarding), Hoenn Pokemon (in every area, and hard to find) New areas, Remapped some dungeons (so your old guides wont work) , Extra recurring characters (some’ll hate you, some’ll help you)
Note that the hack is incomplete but feel free to enjoy the hack as-is.
******* THE PATCH ******* ----- Use ----- This free and unofficial patch offers a restitution of the sets of the original Apple II game on your Sega Genesis game. To be applied to the image file: Prince of Persia (U) [!].bin CRC32 of the rom: 13C181A4 To see the CRC32 of a file under Windows10: install 7-zip and right click on the rom file then CRC SHA > CRC32. To use the patch, you can use Lunar IPS for example available here: https://www.romhacking.net/utilities/240/ ----- Versions ----- 1.1 credits added & checksum corrected (is now OK) 1.0 first release ----- Acknowledgements & Questions ----- You can write to me by leaving a message on this topic of the forum: https://www.romhack.org/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=4225 ******* THE GRAPHICAL WORK ON LEVELS ******* ----- Adding a background decor ----- The only place where there are bones on Apple II is next to the sword that the hero must retrieve in level 1. These bones indicate the former holder of the sword and are not present on Genesis. It has been restored. ----- Removal of many background decorations ----- Conversely, this patch removes many of the background designs presented in the Genesis version but absent from the Apple II version. Almost all the screens in the Palace's cellars are affected by this restoration to the authentic original state. Indeed, the Genesis version deviated from the original sets unlike many faithful adaptations on this point, including Sega-CD/Mega-CD. ******* THE GAME ******* ----- Secrets ----- 5 secret potions each granting an additional life point: level 2, then 4, 7, 9 and finally 11. 2 lost secret potions: level 3 (does not work) and level 5 (stolen by the double) From 3 life points at the beginning, you can have 8 points at the end! Have a good discovery! ----- Special controls ----- Not very obvious and explained only in old manuals, button C will not be used. Hold down the down button and press A repeatedly to: - crouch forward and pass under the harrows that close up Hold the up button down for: - climb on the platforms above you - jump on the spot to make all the falling slabs of a screen shake & discover secret passages in height Hold down button A and : - press left/right to walk slowly Hold down button B and : - press left/right to jump forward without momentum ----- Origin ----- Prince of Persia was adapted on 17 media after its release on Apple II in 1989: COMPUTER: PC, Amiga, Macintosh, Amstrad CPC, Atari ST, Sharp X68000, FM Towns NINTENDO: NES, Game Boy, Super Nintendo, Game Boy Color SEGA: Master System, GameGear, Genesis, Sega CD NEC: PC98, Turbo CD ----- The best adaptation ----- Among the 17 adaptations of the original game, I was looking for a 100% faithful and graphically improved version. The Super Nintendo and Megadrive versions are fine but have additions and level changes. The good surprise comes from the Genesis version (American Megadrive) with the 12 authentic levels of the original game (instead of 17 on European Megadrive) and with the story (deleted on Megadrive) whose texts are perfectly identical to the original Apple II game. To further perfect the original spirit, restitution of the sets has been made.
