Don’t think this is gonna be a 100% Gold Remake, it’ll have its differences. Extra battles (some’ll be optionals, tough but rewarding), Hoenn Pokemon (in every area, and hard to find) New areas, Remapped some dungeons (so your old guides wont work) , Extra recurring characters (some’ll hate you, some’ll help you)
Note that the hack is incomplete but feel free to enjoy the hack as-is.
Mario & Luigi: Starlight Island Adventure is a total reimagining of my 2006 hack, Super Mario Starlight Remix. It takes advantage of the hacking skills I've obtained since creating that dinosaur of a hack, as well as many of the new resources available to SMW hackers, such as custom music, ASM hacks, and custom sprites. This hack has been tested in snes9x 1.53, so it should work in bsnes and ZSNES. In this hack, you can choose to play as either Mario or Luigi after loading your save file on the Title Screen. Each character handles differently. Mario plays like he always has, while Luigi has a higher standing jump and shoots straight fireballs. KNOWN ISSUES: * When leaving the Crystal Cavern submap, Mario/Luigi's OW sprite will briefly appear just below Lemmy's Castle. I don't know what causes this, and it doesn't affect gameplay. * The music will occasionally cut out on the OW. Patching the OW Music Disable Fix patch broke one of the custom blocks in the ROM when it was tested. * In Tidal Temples 2, you can occasionally see a second trail of smoke several blocks above any Torpedo Ted that may be on the screen. This is a glitch in SMW that I haven't been able to find a fix patch for. * Luigi is controlled with the second controller, even though he's meant to be an alternate Player 1 Character. Attempting to fix this with the hex edit provided in the ROM Map rendered the player unable to Spinjump, which would've made certain alternate paths inaccessible and therefore pointless. CHANGES SINCE REVISION 1 * Fixed a couple errors on the OW. * Fixed some minor errors in Crystal Caverns 3. * Added Multi-Midway Patch and secondary checkpoints in all boss levels. CHANGES SINCE REVISION 2 * Fixed some cutoff in 7-3 and 7-4 * Added safe platforms under the first instances of blue blocks/chains in Heavy B's Fortress to allow players to learn the gimmick. * Removed the right wall and ceiling in Maxwell's room since he could get stuck there, trapping the player in the level. CHANGES SINCE REVISION 3 * Fixed some grapical glitches involving some of the decorative hills * Closed the opening on the left side of Bowser's room to prevent him from going off-screen and trapping the player * Fixed some cutoff on the OW CHANGES SINCE REVISION 4 * Fixed bugs related to Morton, Roy, and Bowser (Thanks to imamelia) * Fixed the smoke image bug that shows up in Tidal Temple 2 (Thanks to MarioEdit) * Fixed some previously-unnoticed cutoff/graphical errors and made some other minor level tweaks
