Description Final Fantasy Original

Don’t think this is gonna be a 100% Gold Remake, it’ll have its differences. Extra battles (some’ll be optionals, tough but rewarding), Hoenn Pokemon (in every area, and hard to find) New areas, Remapped some dungeons (so your old guides wont work) , Extra recurring characters (some’ll hate you, some’ll help you)

Note that the hack is incomplete but feel free to enjoy the hack as-is.

Final Fantasy Original (FF1 Retranslation/Restoration) v2.21

What is it?
This hack changes a some of the graphics in the NES game Final Fantasy back to
the ones from the original Japanese version. It also replaces a large portion
of the text with the orignal Japanese names for things.

Why?
I think the Japanese names for everything sound a lot cooler, and the original
 Eye/Beholder picture looks better.

What isn't it?
This is not a complete retranslation. I've changed all the spells, items,
monsters, etc, but I only went thru and touched up the dialog with what I knew
was different. (For example, replacing all intances of "Fiend" with "Chaos".)

What'd I use?
Let's see, as I recall I used Tile Layer to replace the graphics. I did most of
the text work in FFHackster, and some misc stuff with HEXposure.

Applying the patch:
Get the original FF1 rom, make sure it's the English one, not the Japanese one.
Then make a copy of it and name it FF1o.nes or something. Get the "ff1o220.ips"
and SNESTool or IPS.EXE (both of which can be found at www.zophar.net) and put
them all in the same folder. I recommended you use SNESTool. Run that, select
"Use IPS", and follow the instructions from there.

Known Problems:
The little hand covers up the names of the spells because of the way I changed
the layout. The spells screw up the layout in battle and I haven't figured out
 how to fix it.

This version could be loaded with bugs because I haven't tested it much. Feel
free to report any you find.

Version History:
v2.21 3/6/2002
I fixed a few spell name I forgot in the last version.

v2.20 2/28/2002
I fixed a few translations I didn't like, changed the menu text, shortened some
names to fit better, changed the font for battle commands, and changed some
more text like the title, ending, and bridge scene.

v2.11 5/27/2001
Changed DRINK to MEDICINE.

v2.10 5/24/2001
I have the names of the enemy attacks translated now. I also went thru and fixed
up a lot of the dialog, removing some of the Odd CAPITALIZATION and replacing
the names of characters and items.

v2.00 4/19/2001
I changed the names of all the enemies, weapons, armor, items, and spells. I
also changed the magic screen some to account for the longer names.

v1.00 10/26/2000
I changed all of the graphics that were different from the Japanese version
(except the alphabet). This includes: eye, medusa, crosses, the clinic guy, and
a few battle poses. I also changed the word CLINIC back to CHURCH.

Future?
I'm planning to fix a couple of the shop names, and change G to Gil. If I
can get better at reading Japanese I may retranslate all the dialog.
