Descripción de Lufia: The Legend Returns Text Cleanup

Don’t think this is gonna be a 100% Gold Remake, it’ll have its differences. Extra battles (some’ll be optionals, tough but rewarding), Hoenn Pokemon (in every area, and hard to find) New areas, Remapped some dungeons (so your old guides wont work) , Extra recurring characters (some’ll hate you, some’ll help you)

Note that the hack is incomplete but feel free to enjoy the hack as-is.

Lufia: The Legend Returns is riddled with typos. It's not the poor localization team's fault; they
to get the game out in English and German within 16 days. But The Legend Returns deserved more time
and care than that, and so I set out to remedy its issues.

The original purpose of this project was to merely clean up the menu text, removing typos and
truncations like "Drowsey" and "Wake Rng". Fortunately, I was able to fix up the dialogue script
thanks to rainponcho. Players can now enjoy a more consistent and relatively typo-free Lufia: TLR.

Please note that I had to overwrite the vast majority of the game's German inventory selections. If
there's a hidden way to play the NTSC-U release of Lufia: The Legend Returns in German?aside from
tossing your cart in a washing machine?do not select it.

There are 3 patches contained in this archive. Choose 1 of the following.

- LTLR_TextClean_ORIG-TEXT-BOXES_v2-0 (Default patch):
Features the original large dialogue boxes with an 8x16 font. Changes both the 8x16 (dialogue)
and 8x8 (menu) fonts to the ones used in Lufia II, but edited a little bit.

- LTLR_TextClean_ORIG-TEXT-BOXES_VANILLA-FONT_v2-0:
Same as the above patch, except this features the 8x16 (dialogue) and 8x8 (menu) fonts used in
the original game, with some small edits. Use this if you want a more official feel.

- LTLR_TextClean_SMALL-TEXT-BOXES_v2-0 (Recommended patch):
Decreases the size of the dialogue boxes, using an 8x8 font for both dialogue and menus. The
updated Lufia II menu font is used here again.

If you're unsure of which patch to choose, check the Screenshots folder.

Overview
========
- Multitude of typos and grammatical errors fixed, both in the menu and dialogue! (Credit to
rainponcho for demystifying the text dictionary)

- Continuity corrections to legacy terms such as character names, monster names, and inventory
  selections.

- Many retranslated terms taken from Crysta_Blade's Lufia: The Legend Returns menu retranslation
  effort on GameFAQs.

- Item names conform to the standards set by Frue Lufia and Lufia & the Fortress of Doom Restored.

- Spell-checked and updated inventory descriptions.

- Optionally, dialogue font and menu font changed to very slightly edited versions of those found
  in Lufia II.

- An option to reduce the dialogue boxes' height, using the smaller font in the process. This is
provided as an alternate patch. (Credit to rainponcho)

- Renamed one of Ruby's Cards so it matches the elemental rings.
(Flash Card > ThundrCard > Bolt Card)

v1.9
- Renamed an enemy for consistency with Frue Lufia.
(RaidBeetle > Raid Bug)

- Changed the names of the elemental rings so they match with Frue Lufia.
(Burn Ring > Spark Ring > Fire Ring
Chill Ring > Gale Ring > Ice Ring
 Flash Ring > Bolt Ring
 Burn R S > SparkRingX > Fire RingX
 Chill R S > Gale RingX > Ice Ring X
 Flash R S > FlashRingX > Bolt RingX
 F.Ball Rng > Blaze Ring
 Blzrd. Rng > Frost Ring
 Bolt Ring > Shock Ring)

v1.8
- Renamed a couple of pieces of armor, inspired by Lufia: Curse of the Sinistrals.
(Clear Cape > Sheer Cape
Clear Slik > Clear Silk > Sheer Silk)

- Removed the "Small Text Boxes, Vanilla Font" patch. I didn't foresee many people using it.

- Updated the disclaimer/preamble.

v1.7
- Slight revision of item names.
(Light Armo > BrillArmor > Aura Armor > AuricArmor
Light Helm > Brill Helm > Aura Helm > Auric Helm)

- There are now versions of both the big and small dialogue box patches that sport the original
  fonts.

v1.6
- Some minor gear name updates.
(China Skrt > ChinaDress > Cheongsam
Light Armo > BrillArmor > Aura Armor
Light Helm > Brill Helm > Aura Helm
Muscl Ring > MuscleRing > Brawn Ring
 Muscle R S > MusclRingX > BrawnRingX)

v1.5
- Updated item, equipment, magic, and IP Skill descriptions, thanks to a text insertion tool created
  by rainponcho.

- rainponcho fixed the small imperfections left in the small dialogue boxes patch. (Credit to
  rainponcho)

v1.1
- Corrected some more typos and grammatical errors. (Thanks to Swordmaster)

- Reverted an enemy name.
(Haunt > Haunter > Haunt)

- Fixed a spillover issue I caused.

- The ?GAME OVER? and credits' font was reverted to its original larger size in the small dialogue
  boxes patch. (Credit to rainponcho)

- Repair done to a minor issue in the small dialogue boxes patch. (Credit to rainponcho)

v1.0
- Changed the PripheaPark sign to say ?Priphea Park?. Seems I can overwrite the German text in the
  dialogue, if need be.

- Demystified the dialogue text dictionary!!! This means we can hopefully fully fix the dialogue!
  (Credit to rainponcho)

- Fixed misspellings of Artea's name.

- A boatload of typos were corrected, including fixes for wrong directions, tons of misspellings,
and various grammatical errors. Thanks to SinReVi and Swordmaster for pointing out of these
  typos to me.

- Context issues, writing errors, and strange translation choices were also fixed.

- Changed an IP skill name. Don't worry, I also changed its name when you go to ask for IP
  information!
(Blind > Gleam)

- Changed an enemy name. It made no sense how it was.
(H. Pirates > Viking > Buccaneer)

- Fixed the message that displays when you use the IP Skill Instinct on an enemy that either has no
items or has no more items to steal. (Thanks to Swordmaster)

- Fixed some self-induced spillovers with the Silver Bow and Chaff's descriptions. (Thanks to
  Swordmaster)

- Also fixed a spillover with the Dress' description.

- Decided to change the laboratory town's name to Mologolo instead of Mologoro.

- Some consistency updates.

- Changed the name of Magnificent Wood to Premium Wood, in dialogue and in menus. (Credit to
  Swordmaster)
(Great Tree > MagnifiWood > PremiumWood)

- The fourth level lightning spell got a new name?one I'm finally happy with. Lufia & the Fortress
of Doom has a spell called Elegion (Ele-Gion) that I renamed Skywrath in my mod for that game.
In the Japanese version of Lufia: The Legend Returns, the LV4 thunder magic is also called
Ele-Gion, so I decided to give Storm the same name here for consistency.
(Storm > Thunderbeast > Thundbeast > Beast > Thundbeast > Storm > Skywrath)

- The shrine where you get the ultimate equipment from has been reverted to Parethea Shrine, rather
  than Paresia Shrine.

- There's now a separate patch that achieves one of this project's goals: shrinking down the
dialogue box height by half, and using the smaller 8x8 font for dialogue instead. The ?GAME OVER?
and credits' font has also been reduced from 8x16 size to 8x8 in this patch. (Credit to rainponcho
  for the main font mod)

- Changed the name of the mode where you get quadruple experience, LP, and gold.
(Start Over > Retry)

- Fixed an issue where there used to be two Metal Mails by giving one a different name. (Thanks to
  Swordmaster.)
(Mtl Mail > Metal Mail > Alloy Mail)

- Corrected the name of an accessory. (Thanks to Swordmaster.)
(Glass Erng > GlasssErng > GlassErngs)

- The best equipment in Parethea Shrine are now called consistently by their new names.

- Updated the Red Beret and Blue Beret's descriptions.

- Reverted the names of the F.Ball Rng, Bolt Ring, and Blzrd. Rng. Sorry!
(F.Ball Rng > VulcanRing > F.BallRing
Bolt Ring > ThundrRing > Bolt Ring
 Blzrd. Rng > Glacr.Ring > Blzrd.Ring)

- Also updated the F.Ball Rng, Bolt Ring, Blzrd. Rng, and Dmnd Ring's descriptions to properly
reflect the respective spells they enable.

- Changed the names of the Burn Card, Flash Card, and Chill Card to neutralize them a bit. This is
due to the fact that they don't enable the level 1 spells of Spark, Flash, and Gale, but their
  level 4 counterparts.
(Burn Card > Spark Card > Fire Card
 Flash Card > ThundrCard
Chill Card > Gale Card > Ice Card)

- Updated the Burn Card, Flash Card, and Chill card's descriptions to properly reflect the
respective spells they enable. (Which are Fire Dragon, Storm, and Ice Storm.)

- Minor update to Ruby's Double Up tutorial text.

- Small updates to the 8x16 and 8x8 fonts.

- Repaired the internal checksum of the patched game with HebeGB9x by RiGaMoRTiS PRoDuCTioNZ. This
tool accomplishes the same thing RGBFix did, except that it has a GUI, which makes fixing the
checksum easier to do on my end.

v0.20
- Fixed the internal checksum of the game thanks to RGBFix by Anthony J. Bentley. Why did no one
ever tell me this was broken? I would've fixed it a long time ago if someone had just dropped me
a line. It should now work on a 3DS!

v0.17
- Fixed a minor typo.
(Hairband > Hair Band)

- Edited some enemy attack names.
(Hell Flame > Hellfire > Hellblaze
Unexploded Bomb > Dud > Dud Bomb)

- Reverted an item name.
(Wind Buckl > WindShield > WindBucklr)

v0.16a
- Changed an IP skill name in the dialogue from F. Barrier to Force Wall, when you go to ask for IP
  skill information from a shop.

- I also changed the IP skill's name itself, of course.
(F. Barrier > Force Wall)

- Altered a spell's name again.
(Spell Break > Wall > Barrier)

- Reverted the name of a piece of equipment.
(Leechblade > BloodSword > Leechblade)

v0.16
- Reverted the name of the last lightning-elemental spell, because after all these years, I still
  can't think of anything better.
(Storm > Thunderbeast > Thundbeast > Beast > Thundbeast > Storm)

- Edited some item descriptions.
(Keeps hair tied. > Keeps hair back.
A bunny outfit. > Bunny girl gear
 Bunny's tray. > Waitress tray
Ears for bunny. > Bunny girl ears
A ring worn by a bunny > Ring bunny girls wear.)

- Changed some enemy names.
(S. Fighter > SkullSoldr > Skuldier
 S. Lady > SkulAmazon > Skulmazon
 S. Paladin > SkulPaladn > Skuladin)

- Fixed a spillover issue with Dash Attack's description.

- Changed a spell name.
(Destroy > Succumb)

- Reverted the majority of IP skill names. I believe you should be able to play this without any
supplementary guides. As a result of this, I removed ?IP_Skills.TXT?.

- Changed the mention of Split Attk to simply Split in the dialogue, when you go to ask for IP skill
  information from a shop.

v0.15
- Altered the names of two enemies.
(F. Prifia > F.Priphea > F. Priphea
 D.Samurai > Sl.Warrior > Slain Hero)

- Reverted an IP skill name.

- Removed ?nomenclature_changes.TXT?. I felt it was unnecessary to the scope of the project. I kept
a list for the IP skills though, so you don't have to do much deducing on what is what when you go
to a shop asking for IP skill information.

- Updated the readme to prevent spoiling newer fans of the series who read the documentation. Sorry
to anyone I inadvertantly spoiled before!

- Changed two enemy attack names and reverted one.
(Samurai > Decapitation > Decapitate
 Meteor > Thunder > Lightning
Ignore > Feign Ignorance > Ignore)

v0.14b
- Changed the names of two spells.
(Posion > Detoxify > Detox
 Spell Break > Wall)

v0.14a
- Edited two enemy attack names to sound a bit better.
(Hold Gaze > Frosty Gaze > Glare
Lure Gaze > Temptation > Seduce
 Magic Seal Shell > Evil-Seal Shot > Magic-Seal Bullet)

- Fixed Deckard's ultimate IP skill name.

v0.14
- Fixed some odd grammar and an inconsistency.

- Changed the name of an accessory.
(Smart Ring > CleverRing > WisdomRing)

- Altered the quotation mark in the big font.

- Changed the kludgy name of an IP skill.
(Vital Aim > AimAtVitals > Hit Vitals)

v0.13b
- Expanded the name of the AlarmClk.
(AlarmClk > AlarmClock > Alarm Clock)

- Changed the name of the Lt. Jacket (LghtJacket) again.
(Lt. Jacket > LghtJacket > LiteJacket)

- Changed the format of the readme and ?nomenclature_changes.TXT? a bit.

v0.13a
- Very, very tiny update: changed two pieces of women's equipment.
(Cute Dress > TightDress > Cute Dress
 Hairclip > Cachusha > Katyusha)

v0.13
- Changed a bevy of enemy attack names.

- Changed a spell name.

- Very, very minor changes to a few item names.

- Fixed some battle text, as well as a mistake I made.

- Put a string of all caps into proper case.

- Fixed two strings with odd translation and strange grammar.

- Fixed two self-induced grammatical gaffes.

- Changed an enemy attack name and a piece of battle dialogue.
(Spark Breath > Flash Breath)

- Minor edits to a few menu graphics.

- Changed a boss name.

- Changed a bunch of item, equipment, IP skill, and spell descriptions.

- Changed two enemy names.
(Rare Mimic > Blue Mimic
 Minotauros > Minotaurus)

- More menu string edits, yay!

- Fixed a self-induced typo and added a bunch of dragons to ?nomenclature_changes.TXT?.
(Cpr.Dragon > CopperDron > CopperDrgn)

- Reverted the name of the Croquette.
(Croquette > Croque > Croquette)

- Changed a key item name further.

- Reverted the penultimate boss' name entirely.

- Edited a few location names.

- Fixed the biggest?and most embarassing, in my opinion?typo in the game: the internal name of the
  ROM.
(LUFIA RETURBLCE > LUFIA RETURNLCE)

v0.12
- Changed the ?vertical attack? description for IP skills Upright and CrackBuster to ?regular
  attack.?

- Changed ?nocturnal? ?noc.?, ?night?, and any combination thereof to shadow or dark. This also
applies to referencing the shadow element in weapon descriptions.

- Fixed a self-induced typo as a result of the above.

- Changed a few enemy name truncations that looked really ugly, and another for consistency.
(G. Knight > GoblnFghtr > Gob Knight
 G. Shaman > GblnShaman > Gob Shaman
 L. Knight > LzrdKnight > Liz Knight
 L. Shaman > LzrdShaman > Liz Shaman
OakFighter > OrcFighter > Orc Knight)

- Fixed a spillover issue with the Croquette's description.

- Finally fixed that stupid ?peer? sign in Tomis.
("Peer" > "Pier")

- Changed two enemy attack names.

v0.11 EMERGENCY FIX
- Reverted a boss name.

- The penultimate boss' name was fixed.

- Thanks to Turnip, a game-breaking bug has been repaired. The G. Knight enemy, thought to be
renamed GoblnFghtr, was actually renamed ?GoblinFghtr??one letter too long! This caused the game
to crash whenever you fought it or enemies who were next to him in the data (L. Shaman,
  G. Shaman). This has been fixed. Apparently, trying to expand the enemy names leads to crashing
  in battles!

v0.10
- Changed more menu text. v0.10 should be the last version for a while.

v0.9
- Changed a few spell names again, this time for the better.

- Changed a handful of IP skill names, IN THE MENU ONLY. Please don't contact me about the
  inconsistencies.

v0.7
- Edited one enemy name.
(Moray Vine > Nepenthes)

v0.6
- Edited enemy names further.

v0.5
- Yet more typos fixed.

- Changed some more enemy names.

- Edited the format of the readme some.

v0.4
- A few more typos fixed.

v0.3
- Edited two enemy names.

- Fixed some inconsistencies.

v0.1
- Edited nearly all item and magic names.

- Modified the fonts.

- Edited a few item descriptions.

- Half-fixed a trilogy inconsistency.

- Put some stray all upper case strings in proper case.

- Fixed a few dialogue typos that I could find.

- Here are the changes made to item names as of 0.17, retroactively added to v0.1's update. If you
see a change in-game and it's not listed here, it was probably just classified as being optimized
  rather than outright changed.
