Atari ST Information

atari st roms Looking for Atari ST ROMs. Let us take you back. At Retrostic, we are in the business of delivering nostalgia and enhancing your gaming experience with an ode to the classics.

One of our favorite gaming systems was the Atari ST. The Atari ST was the home computer from the mid-1980s through the early 1990s. Released by the Atari corporation in 1985, the 16-bit device is remembered as being a highly versatile computer that was both user friendly and appealed to a wide range of consumers.

The Atari ST made technological advancements that were most impressive with its built-in MIDI ports, which allowed users to enjoy the music sequencer.

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, the Atari ST was largely popular and quickly became the number one choice for many arcade gamers, artists, musicians, and home users. There were a multitude of games available on floppy disk.

Rivaled by the Macintosh and the Commodore Amiga, the Atari ST provided an in-depth color picture and graphics for a better gaming experience overall.

The Atari ST made its debut two month before the Commodore Amiga arrived on the scene, making the ST one of the first computers on the market to come with a fully bitmapped color Graphical User Interface (GUI). Although the Macintosh was technically the first computer to come with a GUI, it had its limitations and the display was on a small monitor with black and white images.

Upstaging the Atari's 8-bit machines, the Atari ST was the next generation of its kind and exceeded every expectation. From delivering high resolution picture to its impressive sound effects, the Atari ST was well-received and rated one of the best home computer systems.
